Wild Officially Sign Evason as Coach, Plus Kaprizov News

Dean Evason is now officially the head coach of the Minnesota Wild and the team is expected to sign Kiril Kaprizov.

The Minnesota Wild have removed the interim tag from his title and announced that Dean Evason is now officially the head coach of the hockey club. As per the announcement, he signed a two-year extension with the Wild organization on Monday.

Wild GM Bill Guerin released the following statement:

I am very excited to announce that Dean Evason is our full-time head coach. Dean has done a fantastic job as our interim head coach and deserves this opportunity. I look forward to watching our team under his leadership going forward.

Evason was named interim coach of the Wild on Feb. 14, 2020, and led the team to an 8-4-0 record (.667).  Clearly, the Wild were impressed with what he’d done in his short time with the team in that position.

Evason is the 5th full-time coach in Wild history.

Wild Expected to Sign Kaprizov

In other Wild news, after some internal discussion, the team is expected to sign international prospect Kirill Kaprizov. This will burn the first year of Russian prospect ’s entry-level contract, according to The Athletic’s Michael Russo but the team has decided they are ok with that.

Russo writes that Guerin is aware that Kaprizov can’t play in the playoffs but what was more important was getting him accustomed to the NHL pace of play, acclimated to his future teammates, and getting a feel for the organization as he can take part in training camps.

Russo also writes that while he can’t play, he can attend games and he would go with the team to Edmonton and be part of the 31 players that try to push the Wild forward in the playoffs.
