Wild Insider Says Team is Shopping Matt Dumba in Trade

Michael Russo notes that the Minnesota Wild are shopping Matt Dumba in a trade, but suggests they have other business to take care of first.

As per Michael Russo: “I am hearing from a lot of sources that the Minnesota Wild are shopping Matt Dumba.”

These are comments Russo made during the latest episode of The Russo Hockey Show. He was getting into a number of topics from listeners and discussed the upcoming Seattle Kraken NHL expansion draft. During that discussion, Russo talked about the talks he’s heard in relation to the Wild shopping Dumba and noted, “If that’s the case, I hope the one thing Guerin is doing is making sure that you sign Brodin before you trade Dumba.”

You can listen to the comments below, right around the 39 minute mark of the show.

Russo went on to say, that if the Wild trade Dumba and don’t have Brodin under the contract, there’s no guarantee that Brodin will choose to come back. The talk seemed to suggest that this wasn’t just the Wild seeing what was out there, but actively trying to move him.

The hosts of the show continued to talk about the expansion draft and noted how important it would be for the Wild to keep their top-four defense in tact. And, perhaps the Wild have decided that they’d rather move Dumba as an asset instead of losing him for nothing, thinking they have other needs or holes they can’t afford to create.

Where Could Dumba Go?

The questions about where the Wild might be shopping Dumba is worth asking. There are a number of teams that could use a right-shot, right-handed defensman. And, even though Dumba makes $6 million per season, his number isn’t so outrageous that a variety of teams couldn’t make it work.

Could the Winnipeg Jets be interested? They’re looking to reshape their blue line. What about the Montreal Canadiens who have Max Domi available in trade? The Wild are looking to shore up their goaltending and there are plenty of teams out there like the Maple Leafs, Penguins who have goalies on the market.

If this is true, Dumba just became one of the must-watch names on the trade bait board.
