Wayne Simmonds Being Traded to Sabres

Wayne Simmonds was a player most people expected would move at Monday’s deadline. It’s an odd move considering he’s going to Buffalo.

Wayne Simmonds was a player most people expected would move at Monday’s deadline. He’s now a member of the Buffalo Sabres, which is odd because the Sabres seem to be out of the playoff picture and Simmonds is a rental.

Could the Sabres be flipping him for another asset or is there something in works that would see him sign an immediate extension. We’ll have more news as it becomes available.

The Sabres are expected to send a conditional 2021 fifth-round pick to the Devils in return. Pierre LeBrun and Frank Seravalli of TSN both report the pick can become a fourth-round pick if the Sabres make the playoffs and Simmonds plays ten games, while New Jersey will retain 50% of his cap hit through the end of the year.

    Being 6 points out of third in the division with 20 games left isn’t exactly “out of the playoff picture”.
