Bruins to Trade Torey Krug Tomorrow? [Rumor]: 4 Teams Interested

Could the Boston Bruins be trading the rights to Torey Krug as early as tomorrow? One source believes four teams are in the mix.

Admittedly, we’re not sure how well known Rear Admiral is for breaking NHL trades, but the one thing we can admit is that the guys from Barstool Sports are pretty well connected, especially when it comes to the Boston Bruins. With that mind, that he’s reporting a trade is near that will send Torey Krug out of the Bruins organization shouldn’t be ignored.

The trade itself is logical. Full expectations are that Krug will test free agency and wind up with a different hockey club next season. So, even on the surface, just mentioning the Bruins might trade his rights shouldn’t come as a surprise. But that the details of said trade are so specific, one has to wonder what news has been leaked?

Rear Admiral writes on Twitter, “Look for the Bruins to trade Torey Krug’s rights tomorrow to a team looking for exclusive negotiations before UFA opens on 10/9. Colorado, Florida, Vegas, and Detroit are among the suitors.”

The Red Wings have been rumored to be the team potentially the most interested in Krug. They’re also the team most likely to spend big money to sign him. GM Steve Yzerman has already pulled off a trade this week weaponizing his cap space when he took on Marc Staal and news leaked on Sunday that the team is walking away from both blueliners Trevor Daley and Jonathan Ericsson. But, there are questions about whether or not Krug would be interested in joining a rebuilding team.

Colorado is rumored to be a team willing to go all-in for next season but Krug has said he’s not interested in a one-year deal. That’s pretty much all the Avalanche can afford to do with so many big contracts coming due in the next couple of seasons.

Vegas seems to be in on everyone and there were rumors the Golden Knights and Alex Pietrangelo might be a fit. Should that fall through, perhaps Krug is Plan B. Either way, the Golden Knights would need to clear some serious cap space to make that move.

Florida has also been rumored to be in on some of the bigger fish when it comes to defenseman and that organization is looking to make some big changes. Could the Panthers be thinking about a Krug and Aaron Ekblad one-two punch?

What Would the Return Be for Krug’s Rights?

Remembering this is only a trade for negotiate with Krug, one has to wonder what the return would be? Montreal recently pulled off a similar deal when they traded for the chance to talk to Joel Edmundson. The return to Carolina was a fifth-round pick.

Krug is obviously worth a little more, but how much? With more teams in the mix, could the Bruins get a third-round selection? Maybe even a second?
