Ottawa Senators prospect Viktor Lodin was arrested on drug charges in late August in Sweden. In an open letter to his teammates – and more widely because it was posted on the Timrå IK website, Lodkin wrote:

Timrå IK has invested in me and given me the chance to develop here to become a better hockey player. I have let myself down and I have let down my teammates.

I’m ashamed and I’m very sorry about what happened. I will take responsibility for the mistake I have made. Timrå IK gives me support and help in this situation and I am grateful for that.

What I have done was wrong, I will learn something from this for the future and I will participate in the association’s work against drugs and pure gambling.

I will not comment on the incident further but refer to this text.

Yours sincerely, Viktor Lodin

Lodin was obviously upset. It seems that he was in possession of a recreational drug – although we are unsure what that drug might be. The one we know is that having recreational drugs is considered a much more serious offense in Sweden than it is in North America.

Although there is no way to know the type of drugs Lodin was in possession of, the way the situation was handled the police suggests it might be that Marijuana was the drug in use. It also one of the more popular recreational drugs in Sweden, where there are quite strict laws in place to stop people from using cannabis.

In fact, in a post Daniel Bruce of Senshot, it was suggested that the way Lodin was arrested and put into holding is how those arrested for Marijuana possession would be treated when the are arrested, but there’s no confirmation on that point.

Lodin was a surprising fourth-round pick of the Senators during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft (94th overall). During the 2019-20 season, and had only four assists in 22 games with Orebro. When he was demoted to the Swedish first division he had three goals and five assists in 18 games.
