Game Notes:

The Montreal Canadiens edged the Pittsburgh Penguins in a crucial third game of their best-of-five series. They will now head into Game 4 with the ability to knock the Penguins out of the play-in rounds and go on to the playoffs as an unexpected winner. A fairly even game on the shot clock, Montreal still managed to get the victory while going 0 for 5 on the power play. It was Shea Weber with a goal and two assists for the Canadiens that helped the underdogs get the win.

Jonathan Drouin, Paul Byron and Jeff Petry got the other markers for the Canadiens as Patric Hornqvist, Jason Zucker and Teddy Blueger scored for the Penguins in a losing effort.

The Penguins took a 3-1 lead early in the third period but the Canadiens battled back. Sidney Crosby said after the game that the Penguins were probably guilty of getting too loose with the lead while defenseman Shea Weber commended his team for battling back and sticking to their game.

The two teams will play again on Friday at 4 PM eastern time in what could be the deciding game of the series.

Pre-Game Notes:

This series is tied at one game apiece and could go either way based on the play thus far. The Penguins will keep the same lineup, including what is believed to be Matt Murray in goal. The Penguins picked up 3-1 win Monday and want to keep that momentum going. “We believe in the group that we have,” Sullivan told reporters.

Carey Price has been great for the Canadiens, essentially stealing Game 1.
