Penguins to Sign O’Connor, Rangers In on Khodorenko

A few undrafted free agents might be coming off the board in the next day or two.

Frank Seravalli of TSN reports that the Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to a contract with Drew O’Connor, who just finished his sophomore season at Dartmouth. O’Connor was No. 4 on TSN’s top UDFA list and was a labeled a “prize undrafted free agent” in this year’s group of UDFA’s.

O’Connor, 21, has scored 21 goals and added 12 assists in 31 games for Darmouth this season. He recorded 26 points in 34 games last season.

O’Connor is the 2019/20 Ivy League Player of the Year. Jessie Marshall of The Athletic said of O’Connor:

“O’Connor is a solid organizational get for the Penguins. Watched him against Colorado College and Clarkson this year. Rocket of a shot. Can line a one timer up destroy it. Strong skating base. Good depth addition.”

Also, according to Seravalli, the New York Rangers are in on signing undrafted college free agent forward Patrick Khodorenko out of Michigan State. In four seasons at Michigan, Khodrenko appeared in 143 games recording 54 goals, 66 assists and 120 points. In his senior season, the 21-year-old had 16 goals and 33 points.
