Oilers Re-Sign Forward Patrick Russell

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Patrick Russell to a one-year extension.

The Edmonton Oilers took care of a little business on Monday as they re-signed forward Patrick Russell to a one-year extension. Financial terms of the contract were not released by it is believed to be for league minimum.

Mark Spector of Sportsnet writes, “Russell gets a one-way deal at the NHL minimum of $750,000.”

Russell was often a 13th forward for the Oilers, playing in only 45 games for the team this past season. He posted no goals and five assists but the Oilers like his determination and willingness to forecheck, be physical and add a little jam to their lineup.

Russell has battled his way through the AHL as an undrafted player. He’s got 51 games of NHL experience on his resume but as part of the Bakersfield Condors is a regular contributor on offense.

He may remain an extra forward for the team and will likely come in and out of the lineup as required, but his one-way deal means he’ll stay up with the Oilers and not go back to the AHL.
