Can an Eye on the New York Islanders

Elliotte Friedman said on his 31 Thoughts podcast, the New York Islanders are a team to keep an eye on over the next four days. He mentioned he would be shocked if they didn’t do something, noting, “… when GM Lou Lamoriello thinks his team is good enough, he goes for it.”

Friedman said, “… I really think that they will go for it with someone. I think they’re in on Duchene. I think they’re definitely in on Panarin. Someone said to me his Plan C might be Kovalchuk, although Kovalchuk has control. Friedman ultimately said, he would be surprised if the Islanders didn’t do something big.

Chicago Blackhawks Not Renting This Season

Bob McKenzie said on NBCSN that the Chicago Blackhawks won’t be looking at the rental market and certainly won’t sacrifice futures for short-term fixes. McKenzie said of the situation in Chicago right now, “… it’s hockey deals or bust.”

Part of the reason for the change in attitude is the impact Dylan Strome has made and the continued strong play of Alex DeBrincat.

At best, the Blackhawks might try to move a center like Artem Anisimov, but that won’t be an easy task considering his salary and the term left on his deal when better options are out there for teams who are buying at this year’s deadline.

Matt Duchene Didn’t Know He Was Being Pulled

The Ottawa Senators may have known their intention was not to play Matt Duchene on Thursday versus the New Jersey Devils but someone should have told Matt Duchene who addressed the media and said he had no idea he was being yanked out of the lineup pending a trade before Monday.

This goes to show how little communication seems to be going on between Duchene and the Senators and perhaps might have an impact on whatever decision Mark Stone makes.

Alex Chiasson on the Move?

Darren Dreger was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 Thursday morning and said, in respect to Alex Chiasson, he believes there is a market for the forward but also that the ask if pretty high from the Edmonton Oilers.  “I think it’s a second-round draft pick or a pretty decent prospect or, if you want to be creative, I suppose you could find a way to maybe add both in that package.”

Dreger also said there is a small market for guys like Zack Kassian and that teams like his speed and grit for the playoffs.
