NHL Hart Trophy Finalists Announced Tuesday

The NHL announced their three Hart Trophy Finalists on Tuesday. Who will win the award this year?

The NHL has announced their finalists for the Hart Trophy on Tuesday. The same players voted on by their peers for the most outstanding player are back and Leon Draistaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, Nathan MacKinnnon of the Colorado Avalanche, and Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers are your final three.

The Finalists

Draisaitl can become the fourth player in Edmonton Oilers history to win the award, joining Wayne Gretzky (8x), Mark Messier (1989-90) and Connor McDavid (2016-17). Draisaitl had a spectacular season, leading the NHL in Points, Assists and PP Points.

If Draisaitl wins the Oilers can join the Penguins as the only teams in the NHL with multiple Hart winners on their current roster.

Nathan MacKinnon is looking to become the third Avalanche player in Avalanche and Nordiques history to claim the Hart Trophy, after Joe Sakic (2000 01) and Peter Forsberg (2002-03). This is his second nomination in the last three years. MacKinnon finished with 93 points in 69 games for his third straight season of more than 90 points.

Panarin is hoping to become the fifth Rangers player to win the Hart Trophy and second to do so in the expansion era (since 1967-68), following Mark Messier in 1991-92. Panarin is the first Ranger who has been named a finalist for the Hart Trophy since Henrik Lundqvist in 2011-12. He is also the first undrafted NHL skater (forward or defenseman) to be named a finalist since Martin St. Louis in 2010-11
