More Details About Taylor Hall Meeting With Coyotes

Are there more updates when it comes to the meeting between Taylor Hall and Coyotes ownerships? Is there a chance at a deal?

As per Darren Dreger of TSN, there’s no new news when it comes to talks taking place between Taylor Hall and the Arizona Coyotes. The hockey world was a bit surprised to learn that the two sides had opened up talks about a contract extension, even more surprised to learn that the owner was spearheading those talks.

But, as Dreger points out, things aren’t getting into formal offer territory, frankly nowhere close.

When asked about the two sides possibly getting closer, he said:

“No I wouldn’t say there is progress. It all stems from a meeting, a dinner if you will, last week involving Xavier Gutierrez, who is the new president and CEO of the Arizona Coyotes, I believe ownership was involved. They met with Taylor Hall, but it was more of a friendly meeting, a get to know sort of dinner.

Dreger adds that key people to any deal weren’t at the meeting. Hall’s agent Darren Ferris wasn’t there and neither was the general manager John Chayka. At this point, Hall is as likely to teset free agency as he is talk money with the Coyotes.

Dreger said Hall is willing to be patient and if he goes to unrestricted free agency then he’ll do that. Both sides are prepared “to play this thing out.”

This Is An Odd Time To Discuss Deals

While some contracts might get signed — like that of Oskar Lindblom in Philadelphia — the likelihood that a player of Hall’s caliber would take himself off the market is slim. There’s no harm in talking with the team you’re with and certainly no harm in seeing what their future plans might be, but as the Coyotes and other teams head into the playoffs, there are other, more pressing issues at hand.

This was likely just a dinner where the ownership relayed to Hall how important they believe he is.
