Mikko Rantanen Contract Update

There are more updates when it comes to the contract negotiations between Mikko Rantanen and the Colorado Avalanche.

There are more updates when it comes to the contract negotiations between Mikko Rantanen and the Colorado Avalanche.

Ryan Clarke of The Athletic writes in an exclusive update he’s under the assumption to Avalanche are hoping sign Mikko Rantanen to deal that will range between six to eight years and carry an annual average salary in the range of $8.4 and $8.75 million.

From the latest details we’ve gathered, the Avs and Rantanen are still extremely far apart in terms of finding a middle ground in contract negotiations and anything under $9.5 million is probably aiming low if Rantanen is going to sign anything longer-term.

Rantanen’s side is using Mitch Marner’s new deal as a comparable because they feel Rantanen is the closest of the remaining RFA’s to have similar production, in some cases better numbers per game.

Darren Dreger said of Rantanen, I think there’s more of a gap there and that one becomes more of a contentious issue. He added that there might be a team out there who was targeting Mitch Marner, might now see an opportunity in Colorado.
