The Toronto Maple Leafs have left the Bubble!

Still, even though the team had been ousted from the postseason play, there’s news about the team. In this Maple Leafs Prospect and Injury News, I’ll help team fans stay more up-to-date with some aspects of the news that are emerging from the organization.

Jesper Lindgren Loaned to the SHL’s Modo

In an occurrence that’s happening more often recently with the not-so-looming and much later starts of hockey leagues in North America for the 2020-21 seasons, the Maple Maple Leafs have loaned another player to a European team. This time its Jesper Lindgren, who they’ve loaned to Modo of the Swedish Hockey League.

Lindgren spent the entire 2019-20 season with the Maple Leafs AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies. There he scored nine points (with a plus-5 rating) in 31 games played. The 23-year-old defenseman will likely be recalled before the AHL’s next season begins. However, as noted, no one knows right now when that might be; so, why not let these prospects play?

Filip Kral Loaned to HC Prerov of Czech Second National Hockey League

The Maple Leafs’ public relations also tweeted on Wednesday that the organization had loaned Filip Kral to HC Prerov of Czech Second National Hockey League. The 20-year-old left-shooting defenseman had played the 2019-20 season with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, where he had scored 12 goals and 49 points in 53 games. Kral was a fifth-round choice (149th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. However, he’s probably a few seasons away from having a chance to crack at making the Maple Leafs roster.

Maple Leafs Injury News

Tyson Barrie Is Feeling Better

Tyson Barrie, whose injury is defined as “undisclosed” but who clearly looked as if he were dealing with concussion-like symptoms after hitting his head on the ice during Game 5, confirmed as much when he told the media,

“I banged my head on the ice pretty hard and had some headaches. They’re pretty careful with the concussion stuff. Thankfully I’m feeling pretty good right now but I had to take care of it.”

Now that the Maple Leafs have been knocked out of the postseason play, the rumor is that Barrie will be moving on from the Maple Leafs. He’s for sure needs a new contract somewhere. But where?

Although to Barrie’s standards it was down season, he’s likely to have some choices where he plays. It was his first down season after three straight 50-point seasons. In Colorado with the Avalanche, he was the quarterback of the team’s number one power-play unit and the 28-year-old defenseman would probably get back to putting up bigger numbers than he did in Toronto if he can find the right team for him, which would be a team that can give him the job running their first power-play unit.

Jake Muzzin Will Be Ready for 2020-21

Jake Muzzin’s injury might have sealed the deal for the Maple Leafs during their best-of-five series with the Blue Jackets. He’s that important to the team. It was a freak injury, but it was scary for everyone. Who knows how the Maple Leafs would have done with him in their lineup?

The good news is that he should be ready for 2020-21 – whenever the 2020-21 season might start. When asked about his injury Wednesday, Muzzin reported that it was a “Kind of a freak play an accident. All things are looking towards a full, healthy recovery.”

After Muzzin was crosschecked and lost his balance he fell awkwardly and hit his head on Oliver Bjorkstrand’s knee during Game 2. He ended up missing the remainder of the qualifying-round series.

He’ll be good to go when next season starts. It will be interesting to see who he has as defensive partners next season. Some of his current teammates will likely be departed.
