According to a report from Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston, both Jake Muzzin and Morgan Rielly will be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs on their upcoming road trip.
Considering there wasn’t much in the way of information pertaining to how well either was recovering from their serious injuries, this is the second sign of good news, the first being that Rielly started skating before Maple Leafs practice last week.
Obviously, them joining the team doesn’t equal them playing on this road trip. For all we know, both Muzzin and Rielly could be part of the leadership group off the ice and that their presence in the locker room has been deemed critical to the Maple Leafs success over the next few games and as the team pushes towards an Eastern Conference playoff spot. That said, it’s also likely a good sign.
Both players are expected to skate with the team on the trip and potentially, a return is not far off. This also comes after news that Cody Ceci skated with the team for the first time after suffering a serious ankle injury. Johsnton tweeted, “Cody Ceci will travel with the Leafs to California next week and practice with the team there. That’s the next step for him before returning to the lineup.”
If the Maple Leafs could get some healthy bodies back in the lineup after winning a couple of games in a row, perhaps the team could go on a run and give themselves a little breathing room.
