Jonathan Toews Misses Practice: Issue Or Not?

What is the issue with Jonathan Toews? He left practice early Monday and was deemed unfit on Tuesday.

The number of players on the “unfit to play” list continues to climb. And, while Chicago Blackhawks captain hasn’t been officially deemed as injured, nor are reports coming down that anything serious will keep him out of the lineup, he was deemed unfit to participate in Tuesday’s practice according to head coach Jeremy Colliton.

This news comes after Monday’s practice where Toews left early after the Blackhawks completed their power play drills.

Of course, goaltender Corey Crawford was deemed unfit to play a little while back and he was joined by defensemen Olli Maatta and Connor Murphy. The list in Chicago isn’t as long as some other teams, but the players missing are key to any chance the team might have of beating the Edmonton Oilers in a play-in round starting August 1.

So What’s Wrong With Him?

Early speculation was that Toews might have gotten injured during Monday’s drills. He snapped his stick in frustration and appeared to skate towards the equipment area as if to fix an issue. He didn’t return. Now, with the Blackhawks having the day off on Wednesday and the NHL protocols not to say anything, fans will be left to wonder.

Coach Jeremy Colliton said Toews not being on the ice was simply the team “just trying to keep him fresh. Nothing other than that.” Hopefully, for the Blackhawks’ sake, that’s the truth.
