Oskar Lindblom Makes Uplifting Return For Flyers

Philadelphia Flyers forward Oskar Lindblom officially made his return to the NHL on Thursday in an emotional return.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Oskar Lindblom officially made his return to the NHL on Thursday in an emotional return that had both teams saluting him with a stick clap.

Lindblom — who just nine months ago Lindblom wasn’t sure if he’d ever play hockey again after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma — suited up in Game 6 of his team’s second round playoff series against the New York Islanders. It’s hard to call the return nothing less than miraculous and certainly fitting of what his team did before the game and what all the players on the ice did for him during it.

The Flyers posted a welcome back on their official Twitter account saying simply, “He’s in.”

You can see the reaction by both teams in the video below as Lindblom lined up for a faceoff at the 9:44 mark of the first period. As of this writing, he’s had five shifts including 3:41 in the 3rd period. Total through three Periods… 16 Shifts. 11:17.

Bill Meltzer of Flyers.NHL.com said of his return:

Putting aside the emotion of it all for a moment, you can tell that Lindblom’s strength and timing aren’t 100 percent back yet — of course they’re not, as that would be impossible. But his details are as good as ever and he thinks the game so well. Emotionally, this is amazing.

These are the kinds of moments in hockey that mean so much.
