Darnell Nurse Not On Ice For Oilers Scrimmage Saturday

According to reports coming out of the Edmonton Oilers scrimmage today in support of Colby Cave, defenseman Darnell Nurse was absent.

According to reports coming out of the Edmonton Oilers scrimmage today in support of Colby Cave, defenseman Darnell Nurse was absent. He went down yesterday during practice but returned.

Reports are he’s being held out for precautionary reasons and there’s no report as to whether or not his ailment is serious, only that he wasn’t on the ice today.

Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic writes:

Official word from the Oilers re: Darnell Nurse’s absence for today’s scrimmage is he’s “unfit to play.” Nurse got tangled up with Kailer Yamamato midway through Thursday’s practice and seemed to be favouring his leg. He only missed one drill before returning.

Riley Sheahan and Kailer Yamomoto also went down and were a little shaken up in today’s scrimmage. Neither returned to the game, but it’s not assumed anything serious is up with either player.

Another Opportunity for Broberg

His absence saw Philip Broberg skate with Nurse’s regular defense partner Ethan Bear and Broberg scored on a laser beam shot from the point, continuing to up his stock in Oilers camp after being added to the team bubble earlier this week.

The announce crew noted they had tremendous chemistry, but also said that Caleb Jones looked strong. Needless to say, if Nurse is out with anything serious, it would be bad news, but the Oilers feel good about their depth.

Oilers Pay Tribute to Cave

This news came hand-in-hand with a very touching tribute to Colby Cave who recently passed away during the NHL pause. All the Oilers players were wearing No. 12 in his honor and saluted friends, family, and wife Emily who were at the rink today.

This was all part of the Colby Cave Fund Scrimmage and #WePlayForColby was trending today among Oilers fans.
