It appears Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise has signed with a different team while playing as part of the Canadiens play-in roster. As strange as that sounds, because Weise isn’t sure he’ll be guaranteed employment next season, he’s rumored to have jumped on a deal with a Swiss team.
According to reporter Guillaume Lefrançois of La Presse in Montreal, Weise has a deal in place that will see him play with HC Lausanne next season.
If this report is accurate, there are certainly going to be questions in Montreal as to why Weise is with the team. Some may argue the franchise should ice the players that give Montreal the best chances to win. Otherw will argue his five points in 23 games and struggles over the past seasons isn’t worth sacrificing valuable playing time for other, younger prospects that could be really learning and growing in this unique playoff environment.
Weise has spent the past couple of seasons moving between the NHL and the AHL and he’s right to assume that he could be in tough to land another contract in a flat-cap salary summer. He’s already taking heat for a missed opportunity Tuesday evening in an exhibition game versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
