A Solution to Dustin Byfuglien Situation Coming?

Could there be movement on the termination of Dustin Byfuglien’s contract in Winnipeg?

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, both the Winnipeg Jets and Dustin Byfuglien may be getting closer to a resolution when it comes to the termination of his contract and his eventual status as an NHL free agent, who may or may not want to continue his hockey career.

One of the players benefiting from a pause in NHL action might be Byfuglien who hasn’t skated since last season when he went down to an injury. Then, there was drama about a return to Winnipeg, how and when he told the team he was getting surgery and eventually, his desire to move on.

While the story has gone somewhat silent with the current COVID-19 crisis facing the world, there may be news on the Byfuglien front. There’s nothing concrete, but Dreger notes on the latest edition of TSN Insider Trading:

What I know is that the National Hockey League is scheduled to discuss the situation with the Winnipeg Jets in the very near future.  Now the Players Association, the league, the player and the Winnipeg Jets are all aligned on the termination agreement but it hasn’t been executed yet and because of that the Winnipeg Jets aren’t in a position to announce but the detail work between the league and the Winnipeg Jets is expected to be ironed out in the near future.

It will be interesting to see how much attention this story gets with little else to talk about and as the season pause goes on longer and longer, if the likelihood of a Byfuglien return to the NHL increases.
