This comedy-drama co-written and directed by Spike Lee starring John David Washington — Denzel’s son and part of the HBO show Ballers —, Adam Driver (of Star Wars fame), Laura Harrier, and Topher Grace comes out August 10th. Taking place in the 1970s, Ron Stallworth is an Africa-American detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department trying to make a name for himself by going undercover with the Ku Klux Klan.
This film could go a number of ways in the way in which people respond to it. Since the film is about racism and a faction that was all about hate, there are sure to be haters and people suggesting the film is promoting and keeping alive more hate. There will be others who understand the joke and enjoy it for what it is. The premise may be old and potentially outdated, but is interesting and the choice of music for the trailer a masterpiece.
