5 Recent Most Expensive Hockey Cards Sold on eBay: Part 2

What happened to the highest priced sports cards selling on eBay? Here’s what they eventually sold for – and adds a couple of other cards to the mix that sold for high amounts since March 1, 2018.

Last week I listed the five most expensive hockey cards currently selling on eBay. This post tracks what happened to those cards – how much they eventually sold for – and adds a couple of other cards to the mix that sold for high amounts since March 1, 2018.

Highest Selling Hockey Card #1: Connor McDavid RC

Price: $72,243.01 (Canadian dollars) or $55,655.00 (US dollars).

Of Note: This sale was of a 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup Connor McDavid Rookie Card. But it was no ordinary rookie card. It was autographed, had a 3-color patch, was serial numbered out of /99, and was graded as PSA 10 (Professional Sports Authenticator). The card was sold in a hard case on May 25, 2018, after 80 bids.

Highest Selling Hockey Card #2: Wayne Gretzky RC

Price: $28,686.92] (Canadian dollars) or $22,100.00 (US dollars).

Of Note: This 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky RC #18 and was graded as PSA 9 and sold in a hard case on March 1, 2018. There were 52 bids on this card. Can you imagine it once had gum beside it? Fortunately, some young fellow didn’t put this card in his bicycle spokes.

Highest Selling Hockey Card #3: Connor McDavid RC

Of Note: This 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup Connor McDavid Rookie Card was almost like the highest-priced card. It was autographed, had a 3-color patch, and was serial numbered out of /99. However, one difference is that this card was not graded by a professional authenticator. Instead, the card was sold in a top loader (like us mere mortals might do) on March 21, 2018 by a single bid of just under C $34,997.97 [$26,961.95]. Don’t you hope it was some young 12- year old collector who pulled it from a pack and had his Mom help sell it?

Highest Selling Hockey Card #4: Connor McDavid RC

Of Note: Again, this 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup Connor McDavid Rookie Card is similar to high-priced cards #1 and #3. It was autographed, had a 3-color patch, and was serial numbered out of 43/99. This card was sold on May 26, 2018, for $25,311.99 (CAD) or $19,500.00 (USD. It was listed at the price it sold for and was bought for a single bid.

Highest Selling Hockey Card #5: Bobby Orr RC

Of Note: This 1966-67 Bobby Orr #35 Topps Rookie Card was graded by a professional authenticator as a 7.5/10. The card was sold in a hard case on May 24, 2018, for $23,504.23 (CAD) or $18,107.33 (USD). It had 32 bids.

As a note, the 1951 Maurice “Rocket” Richard Parkhurst Rookie Card #4 I noted in the first post (mini card, blank back, graded at PSA 8) sold for $15,966.02 (CAD) of $12,300.00 (USD) after 41 bids.
